About Adrian McGrady

Music has always been an integral part of my life. I began my musical journey in church; singing in my church choir. It wasn’t until my 5th grade studies that I began showing interest in playing an instrumen. It wasn’t till after I saw both Hubert Laws and James Galway in concert that I was sold.

In the beginning I struggled with reading music. So the way I began learning was listening to the music at the end of Disney movies (Back in the days of VHS) I learned all of my notes by playing to those theme songs.

As I progressed in my studies, I began learning pieces such as the Mozart G Major Concerto, Syrinx, Concertino and various other well known pieces in flute repertoire.

When I entered college it was a complete culture shock because I was now getting exposed to different composers, techniques, playing styles And different flutes. And that experience set the tone of things to come in my flute journey.

My musical endeavors were not just limited to the flute. I am a big marching band nerd and surprisingly, I did not play flute; I was in the color guard. I’ve had the opportunity to perform with: The White Sabers Drum and Bugle Corps, Emanon Winterguard and Magic of Scout House Winterguard. Having been in these ensembles it has played a role in my flute journey and it continues to build my confidence and musical skills. I pride myself on being able to have a full family of flutes to help assist me in all of my performances.

I play on a Haynes Amadeus piccolo, Muramatsu Platinum Clad Flute and an Alto, Bass and Contrabass flute made by Pearl Flutes.

I studied Music Performance at The University at Buffalo (SUNY) with Barry Crawford. I have also had the opportunity to work with Robert Dick, Gareth McClearnon, Dr. Christine Moulton-Fish and Dr. Christine Potter
